CROSS ROAD BLUES

Robert Johnson's classic has been covered extensively. I didn't feel I could "touch"
Cream's Live Crossroads, so I took a different run at it. Like Clapton's cover,
I borrowed from the rest of Johnson's catalog to round out the verses.
Many thanks to my good friend Billy Leach for his excellent lap slide work.
I took a shot at it, but it just wasn't "good" enough.

CROSS ROAD BLUES © 1936 ROBERT JOHNSON

DOWN TO THE CROSS ROAD, FELL DOWN ON MY KNEE
DOWN TO THE CROSS ROAD, FELL DOWN ON MY KNEE
BEG THE LORD ABOVE FOR MERCY, SAVE ME IF YOU PLEASE

DOWN TO THE CROSS ROAD, TRIED TO FLAG A RIDE
DOWN TO THE CROSS ROAD, TRIED TO FLAG A RIDE
NO ONE SEEMED TO KNOW ME, OH THEY PASSED ME BY

DOWN TO THE CROSS ROAD, THAT SUN IS SINKIN' LOW
STANDING AT THE CROSS ROAD, THERE AIN'T NO WHERE I CAN GO

DOWN TO THE CROSS ROAD, I CAN HEAR THEM HELLHOUNDS WAIL
BEG THE LORD FOR MERCY, HE WON'T THROW MY BAIL

RUN YOU CAN RUN, TELL MY OLD FRIEND WILLIE BROWN
I'M STANDING AT THE CROSS ROAD, BELIEVE I'M SINKIN' DOWN
STANDING AT THE CROSS ROAD, I BELIEVE I'M SINKIN' DOWN
